Hi, I’m Amanda-Jo

I am an LPC-MHSP (t) at Replenish Counseling.

I work with women, teens, families, and couples who feel stuck in old patterns, defined by their circumstances, and fear being unable to change.

If there were one thing I could tell the younger version of myself, it would be to be yourself. Don’t let anyone be the author of your own story.

I am already so proud of you for taking the next step to feeling better.

Your story has many puzzle pieces that may feel lost or unorganized. My goal is to help provide that space – in my office, we can work together to put all of the pieces in place.

One of my core values is belief in our shared humanity – we are trying our best, connect with others, and feel safe. I want you to see me not as a therapist, but as a person who accepts you as you are and wants to help you live the life you deserve by breaking down barriers, setting boundaries as an act of self-care, and trusting yourself.

I am passionate about helping people discover what it’s like to begin trusting their instincts and giving a voice to their boundaries and needs from others.

I seek to help those who feel stuck in old patterns identify what is getting in the way of making the changes they desire.

When clients leave my office I want them to feel empowered, encouraged, and heard. I collaborate with my clients to ensure they have a voice and work with them to gain more confidence. You life’s circumstances do not define who you are – let me help you rewrite your story.

I have my Master’s in School Counseling and have previously worked as a Middle and High School Counselor for the last 5 years. I have experience with adolescents and teens in individual and group counseling, focusing on self-esteem, anxiety, social pressures, and day-to-day barriers within teens. I also have experience working with helping parents and students improve healthy communication styles to better support the student.

I am a post-masters graduate, currently working on fulfilling requirements to obtain my license as Licensed Professional Counselor.

I did my post-masters internship placement with Replenish Counseling working with adolescents and young women. Throughout my experience with Replenish Counseling I have been finding my love of using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I find these approaches particularly meaningful in helping my clients no longer feel paralyzed by their distressing thoughts and feelings. I also enjoy using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques to help clients reduce feelings of depression, sadness, and anxiety.

I also trained in EMDR and pull this approach into my work with clients that have experienced traumatic and distressing life experiences.

Lastly, I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I like to work alongside couples that are trying to break away from the constant loop of frustration and communication and to be able to instill and practice healthy communication with your partner in a new healthy away. I often incorporate EFT when working with families who feel like their relationship is strained and help them come to a place of safety and connection.

Some of my favorite ways to work with clients are…

  • Helping clients feel confident in who they are and how to find happiness day to day even when things are hard
  • Working with clients to find healthy coping strategies
  • Supporting clients as they navigate setting healthy boundaries with friends and family
  • Increasing my clients sense of inner strength and resiliency

I am especially passionate about the sober curious community.

If you are feeling lost in your relationship with alcohol or noticing that it is causing more harm than good to yourself and relationship, then you have come to the right spot. I work with clients who want to redefine their relationship with alcohol using a non-AA approach and rewriting what that relationship looks from them. We will look at alcohol through a different lens to become curious about where it fits in our life and taking ownership and control of it. You do not have to have a “problem” to get curious and explore healthier ways to incorporate or minimize alcohol from your life.

I love to use my creativity with clients.

Do you sometimes feel like you would like to do therapy outside of the office? I provide walk and talk therapy for individuals in parks located in the Brentwood and Nashville area. Walk and talk therapy is a little bit different than what you would expect from a typical therapy session, but with the added benefits of being outside in nature.

I also work with Annie, my Cavalier King Charles and certified therapy dog. Annie is truly professional at bringing comfort and joy to those in need. For more information about Annie, you can click on her page here, or reach out to me at the contact forms below.

MY AREAS OF Specialty

I am a pre-licensed clinician and under the direct oversight of Christine Finnegan, the Clinical Director at Replenish Counseling, as well as my Licensing Supervisor, Kim Street (license number 2134). This means that my clinical work is reviewed with both Kim and Christine to ensure the best quality care is rendered to my clients.
